Making Sacrament Bread

Natalie, Jayden (in the background), Alaynah, Allie with our newest Beehive, Sam, and part of our new Teacher, Denver.

Our young men and young women got together on Tuesday, June 22nd to learn how to make bread from Sister Gray and Sister Jensen that will be blessed and passed during the Sacrament for the next few weeks. It was a great activity and will help the young women also be a part of this sacred ordinance.

Hawkslandapalooza

On June 5th, our ward sponsored a neighborhood block party, the Hawkslandapalooza, that we hope will become an annual event. It was so fun to see everyone come out and participate in the activity. Sister Jensen and her family made a cut-out Noah's Ark that you could stick your faces in and take pictures. Sister Hein and her family helped coordinate the whole event . . . thank you! Brother and Sister Christensen were grilling and serving food. Why is it that hot dogs always taste better grilled and outside??? We had lots of young women there supporting the event too.

Here are Natalie and Jayden hanging out

And sisters, Caitlyn and Maddy, doing a karaoke duet (whose Dad may have inspired them to get up and sing with a little money incentive :)

Paytene and Juliana choreographed a dance for the talent portion. Juliana also did a karaoke song with future young woman, Kennedy Pawloski. Alaynah and Caitlyn helped to bring the watermelon over for dinner. And Kynz and Perl were out doing lots of the activities . . . earning "Hawkees" for dinner. We can't wait to do it again next year.

Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction Fundraiser

At the end of April the young men and young women combined to put on a Spaghetti Dinner and silent auction to raise money for our camps this summer. We worked hard weeks before passing out flyers and visiting with the neighborhood so they would know about the activity and be excited about coming. We were excited by all of the donations from our youth and others in the ward for services and other items to donate for people to bid on. Our young women were busy doing lots of babysitting and our young men were working on lots of yard work.

The night of the dinner, everyone had their aprons ready and were busy serving everyone who came. We had spaghetti with a choice of a meat or no-meat sauce, green salad with a choice of ranch of Italian dressing and a roll. We made desserts and sold those as well. It was great to see every table full and so many of our ward family there to support us. Luckily, Kierstin and Kaycee had come early to help . . . so when Sister Bird set off the fire alarms at the church, they were there to help. Kierstin and Kaycee also did an awesome job making all of the salads. Look at them all lined up and ready to go!

Tyler and all of the servers did a great job making sure that all of our guests had a great time. They worked tirelessly serving and bussing. They were so hungry by the time they finally got to eat at the end of the night.
Alaynah, Patch, Michael and Jayden are all lined up and ready to take our guests to be seated.

Perl and Kynz did a great job as our hostesses making sure that the servers took our guests to the right table

After dinner and before the end of the auction, the ward activities committee put on a talent show. Some of our youth also participated in this and did a great job. Kierstin and Kaycee sang, Juliana played the piano, Amy sang the piano and played, Jason and Angel played guitar, and Alaynah did a monologue. Loved them all!

All in all, we had a great time serving together and everyone who came enjoyed themselves. We were able to earn an incredible amount for camp. Thank you to everyone who participated to make this event such a success!

Ice Cream Sculpting

This week the Priests and Laurels tried their hand at ice cream sculpting. We talked about the importance of sculpting our own lives and what we have to do. Sometimes we have to talk away some things (bad influences, incorrect choices) to become the masterpiece we want to be. Always remember that you are God's masterpiece! We ended the night eating our creations . . . yummy!

Future Young Women

Madison Lux, Chelsie Hawkes, Haley Butters, Kayte Finch, Alexa White, Ashton Paletta, Madelyn Marchant

Sister Bird had a chance to talk to the Activity Girls (ages 8-11) about the Young Women program as part of their Faith in God requirements. It is always fun to get them excited about what is coming up in their lives. The best line was when talking about some of the activities we do, the response from one of the girls was, "So, you actually do fun things too?". Absolutely!
